- In article <Q0wDxYWCl5Ee089yn@ibm.net>, steve.withers@ibm.net says...
- >All 197 apps Win95 apps.....compared to the 2,000 OS/2 apps - and all
- > the DOS/Win apps they have in common.
-
- Actually, it seems as though you are counting unfairly. Remember that Win95 is
- Win4.0 *as well as* DOS 7.0--as OS/2 Warp is OS/2 3.1 (I believe 3.1 now,
- they released a maintenance upgrade). 2000 apps is only accurate if you're
- counting apps designed for older versions of OS/2...At which point, you have
- to start counting the Win3.x (and older, if you can find any :D) and DOS apps.
- Being nice, and throwing out the DOS apps (who needs a character-based
- Lotus Symphony anyway?), you still have numbers that easily tower above
- 2000. (I don't have figures now, magazines are in another room.)
-
- Think about it.
-
- >Your Win95 software is still hidden in the back pages of your 1996
- >calendar.
-
- True, much of the native Win95 software is on the back pages. Until then, we
- can make do with NT versions. :D (NT software--for the most part--runs on
- Win95.) And it is on the back burner because the developers--who have made
- their products already--want to test it thoroughly with the final product (as
- opposed to the beta they were using until August)...All that testing? Why, it
- insures a more quality product.
-
- And the major apps have moved already, or will be released this quarter. All
- the MS products have been moved (duh, gee, George, whyzat?) and the Lotus
- SmartSuite 96 is slated to be availabe for Win95 shortly. (Hmm....Aren't Lotus
- and IBM sorta' merged up? Could it be that Lotus is still not entirely confident
- of OS/2 Warp, and *needs* the Win95 support? Things that make you go
- hmmm......)
-
- >Mine's on my hard drives. That's the difference.
-
- My important ones are--or on CD. MSVC++ 4.0, Paint Shop Pro 3.12 (NT
- version), Microangelo, a few others....Other ones...Ah, my current stuff works
- fine, I don't need 'em--yet.
